"The Path to 9/11": The newest fantasy from Walt Disney Pictures

This Sunday and Monday, (9/11) ABC plans on airing what can best be described as a work of fiction, loosely based on the events leading up to September 11, 2001. The “docudrama” entitled “The Path to 9/11”, was written by a rightwing nutjob, who apparently is good buddies with Rush Limbaugh. ABC claims this propaganda film is based upon the 9/11 commission report, yet members of the 9/11 commission have publicly stated that they have just “made things up”. Former members of the Clinton administration have even written ABC to express their outrage at the license Disney has taken with this production. Heck, even Bill Clinton himself was quoted as saying, “I think they ought to tell the truth, particularly if they're going to claim it's based on the 9/11 commission's report…They shouldn't have scenes that are directly contradictory to the factual findings of the 9/11 commission. I just want people to tell the truth."

In an effort to bring massive public pressure upon Disney to pull the plug on this partisan cartoon, organizations like ThinkProgress and MoveOn.org have started a campaign to sign petitions and send letters to Robert Iger, CEO of Disney, demanding they pull the plug on this rightwing revisionist “docudrama”. Let’s hope their efforts pay off.

Below is my letter to Disney’s CEO. It may never get read, but it made me feel better writing it, and knowing that I expressed my outrage regarding this partisan political stunt. I would encourage all people of good conscience to also contact Mr. Iger, and let him know that we don’t appreciate him using our airwaves to further his and his friends’ political agenda.

"Mr. Iger,

I am truly disappointed and disgusted that your company would choose to air an obviously partisan "docudrama" regarding the tragedy that our nation experienced on September 11,2001.

As we approach the fifth anniversary of this tragic event, it is certainly not a time for revisionist history being broadcast on the (may I remind you) PUBLIC airwaves. You don't own the airwaves, the people do. You have simply been granted access to them, and that access is NOT for the purpose of pushing a partisan political agenda.

The people WHO WERE THERE are taking exception to your slanted portrayal of the events leading up to 9/11. People of conscience like Madeleine Albright, Samuel Berger, Bruce Lindsey and Douglas Band, as well as the former President himself, Bill Clinton, have told you to quit lying and "get it right". I suggest you take their advice.

We live in the digital age now. Time was, if a company or organization offended me, I would tell a few of my friends. Now, thanks to the Internet, I can tell a few thousand of them. And that's what I, and many others intend on doing if you choose to broadcast this partisan fantasy on ABC this Sunday and Monday.

Disney is a company that has a reputation of providing family entertainment and being guided by family values. But I don't think that lying to the American people for political gain qualifies as a family value. Do you?

I hope you'll carefully rethink your decision to broadcast this "docudrama", or you and your company will take the time to make the changes to "get it right" before you transmit it across the people's airwaves. I'd like to believe you will do the right thing.

Sincerely..."
